Installation Checklist

The following checklist provides the basic steps for connecting, mounting and configuring a Certus unit.

  1. Plug the power supply into the power connector on the breakout cable and then into the wall socket. See Power Supply.

  2. Connect to Certus using one of the following methods:

    1. Ethernet

      1. Plug the 8 pin breakout cable into the IO1 connector on the Certus.

      2. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet socket on the breakout cable, and into your network.

      3. Download and install the Bonjour ZeroConf networking utility from the link https://www.advancednavigation.com/Bonjour64.msi.

      4. In a web browser, type in the address http://certus.local.

    2. RS232 Serial

      1. Plug the 16 pin breakout cable into Certus.

      2. Connect the USB to RS232 / RS422 adaptor cable to the Primary port and your computer. The Certus factory default setting is RS232. Check that the mode switch is at the correct setting.

      3. Java 11 is required to run Certus Manager.

Adoptium JRE 11 is the recommended Java installer to be used on all platforms. Install the latest version of Java 11 from Adoptium, selecting the correct operating system and architecture for your computer.

      4. Download Certus Manager from the Certus product page of the Advanced Navigation website.

Note: Certus Manager is only available for systems with x64 architecture

      5. Double click Certus Manager to start the application. See Using Certus Manager for specific notes for different platforms

      6. Select the correct COM port.

      7. Select the Baud Rate. The default baud rate is 115200 bps.

      8. Click Connect.

  3. Mount the unit in the standard alignment of X+ pointing forward and Z+ pointing down. For more information, see Mounting Alignment.

  4. Mount the two GNSS antennas in a level orientation with a clear view of the sky. The primary antenna should be positioned directly forwards of the secondary antenna with separation of at least 0.5 metres. See GNSS Antennas.

  5. Connect the coaxial antenna cables between the antennas and Certus. The antenna cables should not be coiled.

  6. Accurately measure the GNSS antenna offset from the centre of the Certus unit to the central base of the primary antenna in the body co-ordinate frame (X+ forward and Z+ down, see The Body Co-ordinate Frame) and enter these values into the Alignment screen under the Configuration menu. See GNSS Antennas for more details.

  7. Choose a Vehicle Profile in the Filter Options screen under the Configuration menu. This should be the closest available match to your vehicle type. If you need more information, contact Support at support@advancednavigation.com.

  8. Check that all filters are initialised. See Filter Initialisation.

The system is now ready for use.
