Getting Started

This section details how to install, configure and get a Subsonus Tag setup operational.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites required before interfacing with or configuring a unit include the following:

Note: It is highly recommended that the equipment be function tested in a controlled environment prior to installation and deployment. See Function Testing for wet function testing instructions.

Quick Start Guide

  1. Place the Subsonus Tag on an approved Qi® Charger to exit Shipping Mode (see Shipping Mode). See Qi® Charging for more information.

  2. Check the Subsonus Tag's device address on the paper display, and ensure the unit is ready to deploy (see Electronic Paper Display).

If the Device Address is 0, the unit will automatically be assigned an address by the first Subsonus that discovers it acoustically. See Subsonus Tag Device Addresses for more information.

  3. Mount the surface unit following the guidelines in Surface Unit Mounting.

  4. Configure the devices for your desired application. See the sections found under Using the Web UI for information on configuring Subsonus. Note that the alignment configuration cannot be performed until the units are mounted.

  5. Remove the cable pigtail from the connector on the Subsonus unit and the supplied cable. Install the cable to the unit, ensuring that the connectors are mated correctly and the jackets are screwed on hand tight. see Connection Diagrams

Note: The connectors used on Subsonus require silicone grease to ensure they seal correctly. Keep the sealing faces free of debris or damage and ensure the female connector is completely sealed with grease before every mating. Recommended silicone grease: Dow MOLYKOTE™ 111.

  6. Mount the Subsonus Tag unit following the guidelines in Mounting Position.

  7. Set up the reference data source, see Surface Unit Reference Source. Ensure that the alignment between the surface unit and reference source is correct and measured.

  8. Connect the Subsonus cable to PoE injector and the PoE injector into a local network (with DHCP) - see Connection Diagrams for more information. Power everything on.

Note: When the PoE injectors are being supplied power, the DC Run LED will indicate green and when the PoE OUT is connected and power is being drawn from the PoE RUN LED indicator will also change to green. When Subsonus is on, it will beep.

  9. Open your web browser and type in the address http://surface.local/ to connect to the surface (vertical connector) Subsonus unit. The trailing forward slash is required on some web browsers.

Note: If you cannot connect to the Subsonus at this address, see Interfacing with Subsonus Tag.

  10. Ensure that the previously set configurations are all correct, and that the surface (master) Subsonus is correctly set to track the target(s) e.g. Subsonus Tag or a Hydrus.

  11. Set the alignment of the surface Subsonus according to Alignment Configuration.

  12. Measure the offset between the surface unit reference source and surface Subsonus unit. This is a critical measurement.

  13. Add the reference source as an aiding device for the surface Subsonus, see Subsea Subsonus Aiding, ensuring that the offsets are correctly entered in the web UI.

  14. Configure any subsea external aiding devices, see Device Configuration, ensuring that the offsets are correctly entered in the web UI.

  15. The system is now ready to deploy. Click on the Main page to see the status. It may take a couple minutes to initialise, after which time the location of the unit will appear in the web UI.
