IO Connection
The IO connection is used to provide the power and access to a range of interface connections. It can be achieved with an IO Unterminated Cable, an IO Breakout Cable, or a Rugged Evaluation Kit USB Cable. The evaluation kit USB Cable is supplied as a part of the Certus Mini Evaluation Kit.
Advanced Navigation produces tested cable assemblies as either a USB cable, breakout cable, or a 3 metre unterminated cable. Cable assemblies are shielded TPE cable, with each individual wire colour-coded FEP coated 28 AWG wire (for the 12 pin cable).
Rugged Evaluation Kit USB Cable
The evaluation kit is supplied with a 2 metre cable with a Certus Mini push-pull plug on one end and an overmoulded RS232 to USB converter on the other end. The cable is the same 12 wire cable supplied with the IO unterminated cables, and all 12 wires are connected on the push-pull connector end. If required, it is possible to cut off the overmoulded RS232 converter to get access to all the individual wires. The chip used in the overmoulded RS232 converter is an FTDI FT232R and supports baud rates of up to 2,000,000 baud.
IO Unterminated Cable
Optional 12-pin unterminated 3 m cables are available for custom connections. Each individual wire in the unterminated cable is a colour-coded FEP coated wire. See Pin Allocation Table for details on pin out functions. Custom cable lengths for unterminated types are available subject to minimum order quantities and lead times; contact the Sales team for more information.
IO Breakout Cable
Advanced Navigation offers a 2 m, 12-pin breakout cable, along with a 1 m FTDI USB to RS232 / RS422 (selectable) cable. Custom cable lengths are not available for pre-terminated cables.
The IO breakout cable comprises of one DC barrel plug for power, and four DB9 connectors that allow connecting to:
-
Primary RS232/RS422
-
Auxiliary RS232
-
CAN
-
GPIO
Given below are details of the IO breakout cable connections.

Custom IO Termination
Whilst it is recommended to use either a breakout cable or an unterminated cable from Advanced Navigation, you can also source and build your own custom IO cable.
If building you own cable, the connector you will need to source is a Lemo Push pull 0T series plug, part numbers: FGG.0T.312.xxAxxx, such as: FGG.0T.312.KLAC35.
