Installation Checklist

The following checklist provides the basic steps for connecting, mounting and configuring a Subsonus unit.

Subsonus Surface Installation Checklist

  1. Ensure all prerequisites are met, see Prerequisites.

  2. Mount the surface unit following the guidelines in Mounting Position.

  3. Set up the reference data source, see Surface Unit Reference Source. It is crucial that the surface unit reference source and surface Subsonus unit are aligned as closely as possible to the vessel bow-stern axis, and that any alignment offsets are accurately measured once mounted. These offsets must be later entered during configuration.

  4. Install and set up any external aiding devices, such as a DVL, according to the instructions provided with the device. Ensure that any position and alignment offsets between Subsonus and the DVL are accurately measured once mounted. These offsets must be later entered during configuration.

  5. Install cables to the unit and make sure the connector is mated correctly and the jacket is screwed on hand tight.

  6. Connect the Subsonus cables to PoE injectors and the PoE injectors into a local network (with DHCP). Power everything on. When the PoE injectors are delivering power to Subsonus the LED indicator will change from orange to white.

  7. Open your web browser and type in the address http://surface.local/ to connect to the Subsonus unit. The trailing forward slash is required on some web browsers.

If you cannot connect to the Subsonus at this address, see Interfacing with Subsonus in the Subsonus Reference Manual.

  8. Ensure that the offset between the surface Subsonus and the GNSS Compass has been accurately measured and entered in the web UI. See Offset Measurement for directional information when measuring the offset.

  9. The system is now ready for further configuration and deployment.

  10. Once configured, the devices are ready to deploy. Monitor the system from the surface Subsonus web UI. Click on the main page to see the status - see Main View. It may take a couple of minutes to initialise after which time the location of the unit will appear.
