Installation Checklist

The following checklist provides the basic steps for connecting, mounting and configuring a Subsonus Tag unit.

  1. Charge the Tag to exit shipping mode.

  2. Ensure that the Subsonus Tag has enough charge for the application.

  3. Ensure that the Subsonus Tag is configured correctly for the application.

  4. Mount the Subsonus Tag unit following the guidelines in Mounting Position.

  5. Follow Subsonus Surface Installation Checklist for set-up and installation of the Subsonus.

  6. Deploy the Subsonus and Subsonus Tag

  7. Wait until acoustic communication is established (may take a couple of minutes)

  8. Configure the track rate for the Subsonus Tag required by the application, this is done from the Subsonus on the “Configuration”→”Devices” page

  9. Watch the acoustic track in the Subsonus Main View and ensure there are no errors on the Status Indicator

Subsonus Surface Installation Checklist

  1. Ensure all prerequisites are met, see Prerequisites.

  2. Function test the units according to the guidelines in Function Testing

  3. Mount the surface unit following the guidelines in Mounting Position.

  4. Set up the reference data source, see Surface Unit Reference Source. It is crucial that the surface unit reference source and surface Subsonus unit are aligned as closely as possible to the vessel bow-stern axis, and that any alignment offsets are accurately measured once mounted. These offsets must be later entered during configuration. See Alignment Configuration and Device Configuration

  5. Install and set up any external aiding devices, such as a DVL, according to the instructions provided with the device. Ensure that any position and alignment offsets between Subsonus and the DVL are accurately measured once mounted. These offsets must be later entered during configuration. See Device Configuration.

  6. Install cables to the unit and make sure the connector is mated correctly and the jacket is screwed on hand tight.

  7. Connect the Subsonus cables to PoE injectors and the PoE injectors into a local network (with DHCP). Power everything on. When the PoE injectors are delivering power to Subsonus the LED indicator will change from orange to white.

  8. Open your web browser and type in the address http://surface.local/ to connect to the Subsonus unit. The trailing forward slash is required on some web browsers.

  9. Ensure that the offset between the surface Subsonus and the GNSS Compass has been accurately measured and entered in the web UI. See Offset Measurement for directional information when measuring the offset.

  10. Configure any subsea external aiding devices, see Device Configuration, ensuring that the offsets are correctly entered in the web UI.

  11. The system is now ready for further configuration and deployment. See the sections found under Using the web UI for information on configuring the Subsonus to your desired application.

Note: Configuration of the surface unit must be performed in the surface Subsonus web UI, and subsea unit in the subsea Subsonus web UI. It is recommended to use different browser windows if both web UIs are open at the same time.

  12. Once configured, the devices are ready to deploy. Monitor the system from the surface Subsonus web UI. Click on the main page to see the status - see Main View. It may take a couple of minutes to initialise after which time the location of the unit will appear.
